The B202 engine
The Turbo 16’s B202 engine sits lengthways, inclined at 45° towards the car’s right. Its flywheel and clutch face the front; its timing drive and accessory belts are at the rear.
- WHAT IT DOES
- Combustion pushes four pistons, turning the crankshaft. Two overhead camshafts operate four valves per cylinder.

- Servicing, cooling and ignition all work together to keep that power dependable.
03 / THE TURBO
Turbo & intercooler
Exhaust drives the turbine. A shared shaft turns the compressor on the fresh-air side. The intercooler then removes heat from the compressed intake air.
- TWO SEPARATE GAS PATHS
- Fresh air travels through the air filter and meter, compressor, intercooler and throttle to the engine. Exhaust travels from the engine through the turbine to the exhaust pipe.
- BOOST CONTROL
- A wastegate can divert exhaust around the turbine to regulate boost. Exhaust gas does not pass through the intake compressor.
04 / THE DRIVETRAIN
Clutch & gearbox
The front-mounted clutch feeds a chain primary drive. This transfers torque down to the five-speed gearbox beneath the engine, then through the final drive to the front wheels.
- WHAT IT DOES
- The clutch disconnects the engine for changing gear. Gear ratios trade speed for pulling force; the differential lets the front wheels turn at different speeds through a corner.
- WHAT TO PAY ATTENTION TO
- A changing clutch feel, difficult gear selection or new vibration deserves a closer look.
05 / SUSPENSION & BRAKES
Suspension & brakes
Double wishbones guide the front wheels, with each coil spring seated on the upper wishbone. At the rear, longitudinal links and a Panhard rod locate the beam axle.
- SUSPENSION
- Springs support the car and deflect over bumps. Separate dampers control that movement; the suspension links locate the wheels.
- BRAKES
- Ventilated front discs and solid rear discs turn movement into heat. On this later classic 900, the handbrake operates the rear calipers.
